₦4.2 Billion Crude Recovered: Nigerian Navy Strikes Again in High-Stakes Interception

The MT Mkpodu intercepted by the Nigerian Navy near Calabar with ₦4.2 billion in stolen crude—another result of the persistent domain awareness that has led to over 100 tanker arrests to date.

CALABAR, NIGERIA — We extend our highest commendations to the Nigerian Navy and the Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe for their relentless work in sanitizing our maritime domain. The recent interception of the MT Mkpodu, MT Westaf AF, and MT Stelios K in the Calabar/Akwa Ibom axis represents a massive victory for Nigeria’s economic security, with over ₦4.2 billion in stolen crude successfully recovered.

The “Unblinking Eye” in the Darkness

While the physical arrests are executed by the courageous men and women on the front lines, these operations are increasingly powered by a sophisticated “invisible guard.” At midnight on April 8, it was the Falcon Eye maritime surveillance system that provided the critical intelligence needed to spot these “ghost ships” as they attempted to siphon crude from remote wellheads.

Developed and deployed by RTCOM Defense, Falcon Eye serves as the technological backbone of the Nigerian Navy’s Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA). By integrating long-range radar, AIS tracking, and high-definition electro-optics, the system ensures that even when criminals turn off their lights and AIS transponders, they remain visible to Naval Command.

A Milestone of Enforcement

To date, Falcon Eye has enabled the arrest of over 100 tankers involved in illegal maritime activities.

From the high-seas pursuit of supertankers to midnight interceptions at wellheads, RTCOM Defense technology has fundamentally shifted the risk-reward ratio for oil thieves.

A Legacy of Dominance

The Calabar intercept is the latest in a series of high-profile successes where Falcon Eye removed the shadows from Nigerian waters. Our technology has been instrumental in the landmark cases that defined the last few years of maritime security:

  • MT Sweet Miri: Tracked 174 nautical miles off the coast after “going dark.”
  • MT Vinnalaris 1: Intercepted during a complex siphoning operation.
  • MT Jonko & MT Zeebrugge: Demonstrated the system’s ability to maintain persistent surveillance over vast distances.

At RTCOM Defense, our mission is clear: to engineer a transparent maritime environment where the Blue Economy can flourish. We stand with the Nigerian Navy as they continue to prove that in our waters, there is nowhere left to hide.
